The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) applauds the Senate Finance Committee passage of the Legal Immigrant Children’s Health Improvement Act (ICHIA) by a vote of 12-7.

LULAC National Educational Service Centers receives Wagner-Peyser grant.

LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) will be making an announcement Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country leading to the start of the LULAC National Women’s Conference on Friday that it has been awarded a $490,000 Wagner-Peyser grant by Governor Rick Perry's office. The grants are given annually to various organizations to provide workforce training programs and are administered by the Texas Workforce Commission. This grant will support 5 program sites in Texas: Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio.

They are the newest addition to the diverse coalition of concerned leaders from the business, labor, and public policy sectors dedicated to urging public leaders to build a new American health care system by the year 2012.

LULAC Literacy Program for Hispanic Children Receives $1 Million Grant From the Verizon Foundation

he League of Latin American Citizens’ Young Readers program has received a $1 million grant from the Verizon Foundation to expand the program, which is aimed at improving literacy and academic achievement among Hispanic children in grades 1-3.

The Department of Justice is allowing Texas to go forward with the Dec. 12 date for a congressional runoff after federal judges ruled early voting could be extended because the election falls on an important religious day for Catholic Hispanics.

LULAC Is Victorious For The Latino Voters

The League of United Latin American Citizens and the State of Texas negotiated a court order today in the special runoff election for Congressional District 23 allowing more time for voters to cast their ballots. The court order signed by federal district judge Xavier Rodriguez extends the early voting period through Saturday, 12-09-2006. The court also extends the early voting locations hours to 8:00 pm for each of the early voting days. The order leaves it to the discretion of each county to extend both the time and the Saturday voting.
