LULAC Supports American Civic Association in the Wake of the Tragic Shooting

Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the nation’s largest and oldest Hispanic civil rights organization in the country, is anguished and saddened by the news of the shooting of 14 people at the American Civic Association of Binghamton, New York today.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the loved ones who lost their family members in Binghamton, NY today,” said LULAC National President Rosa Rosales. “We do not know all the facts but know that the President, Vice President, Governor Paterson and local officials are tracking developments.
“The National President Rosa Rosales and I are saddened to hear this news,” said LULAC VP for the Northeast Toula Lugo Politis. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and the state of New York.”
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.
