Resolution: Puerto Rico Civil Rights
Whereas, LULAC organization was founded 83 years ago in order to claim for and defend the civil rights of the Latin-American citizens in our Nation.
Whereas, the citizens of Puerto Rico, are not only Latin-American citizens, but also, citizens of the United States of America since 1917.
Whereas, even being Puerto Rico a territory of the United States of America, the residents of the territory and American citizens, don't receive equality in civil rights.
Whereas, LULAC, Puerto Rico Chapter and National, have approved resolutions in support and in claim for the Federal Government to give Puerto Rico the opportunity of auto determination and equality that it represents, annexation, STATEHOOD, just as the Resolution reads: Reaffirming the Right of the People of Puerto Rico to Exercise a Full Self-Government Choice through a Plebiscite approved on July 1st, 2011 and others before.
THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by LULAC Puerto Rico Chapter, in meeting in General
Assembly, today, May 26, 2012, in San Juan, Puerto Rico:
Section 1.- Reiterate and reaffirm the EQUALTY Resolutions approved in the past,
like the Resolution: Reaffirming the Right of the People of Puerto Rico
to Exercise a Full Self-Government Choice through a Plebiscite,
approved on July 1st, 2011 and others before.
Section 2.- Request that, in meeting the National Assembly in Convention next
month of June in the State of Florida, reaffirm their commitment to
support and claim of equal rights to the Congress of the United States
of America to the American citizens residing in Puerto Rico.
Section 3.- Approved this resolution, be made public and be delivered copy of the
same to our national President, Mrs. Margaret Moran, and to the
Chairman of the Committee for Civil Rights, Mr. Baldomero Garza.
