Project RISE

LULAC has always been at the forefront of creating opportunities and a leader for equity for Hispanics in America. LULAC in partnership with Toyota are working to empower the next generation of leaders through LULAC’s Project Rise program to elevate the representation of the Hispanic community in higher education, including non-traditional tracks, and alternative careers.

Project RISE is an after-school program for Hispanic students between the ages of 16 to 18 years old who identify as at-risk. The meaningful program curriculum introduces skill awareness and workforce concepts while building a supportive environment and increasing participants’ confidence and self-esteem.

Program participants and their families have the opportunity to participate in weekly development sessions, be connected to local and national resources, receive one-on-one guidance and mentorship, and cultivate relationships with parents, peers, mentors, professionals, leaders and the community to build a network of personal and professional support, and more. The program will culminate in a resource fair to connect families with resources and support in their communities.

The Project RISE experience challenges youth to understand the correlations between work experience, skill attainment, and high school completion, and how those variables impact college and career success and beyond.

Program Objectives

Project RISE will:
  • Expand key soft skills such as communication and listening skills, critical thinking and problem solving, decision making, teamwork and leadership skills;
  • Increase awareness of economic and professional opportunities through alternative careers and non-traditional tracks;
  • Improve overall confidence and self-esteem in personal and professional settings;
  • Create a supportive environment by cultivating relationships with parents, peers, mentors, professionals, leaders and the community to build a network of personal and professional support; and
  • Provide resources to engage in ongoing personal, academic, professional and economic growth.
