LULAC is a Champion for Coverage
The Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare) helps make health insurance coverage more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans. For Latinos, the law increases access to quality, affordable health coverage; invests in prevention and wellness; and gives individuals and families more control over their care. Through the Health Insurance Marketplace, insurance seekers can purchase insurance from private health plans that covers doctor visits, hospital stays, preventative care, and prescriptions. An important aspect of these plans is that they cannot deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions. By applying for health insurance, individuals can also determine whether or not they qualify for Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or other public health programs.
As a preeminent defender of the civil rights of the Latino community in the U.S., LULAC is committed to addressing health inequities among vulnerable communities, especially among Hispanics. We are delighted to join Health and Human Services in the Champion for Coverage initiative and lend our voice to this cause. Visit our Champion of Coverage page to learn more.
