Mayra Hidalgo Salazar

Mayra Hidalgo Salazar comes to the Deputy Executive Director role at the National LGBTQ Task Force with over 13 years of experience working for social justice. Originally from Naranjo, Alajuela, Costa Rica, Mayra Hidalgo Salazar’s journey as a queer and formerly undocumented woman laid the groundwork for her commitment to organizing spear headed by queer, immigrant youth of color.

In 2010, at age 17, Mayra served as the Campaign Manager for the Trail of Dreams, a walk for immigrant justice from Miami to the nation’s capital that demanded then-President Obama stop deportations. In 2011, she led efforts on the We Are Florida! Campaign and traveled to Alabama to organize against anti-immigrant legislation. She was the first Hudson Valley Director for North Star Fund, where she launched their grantmaking and donor organizing in the Hudson Valley and mobilized more than $1.5M to grassroots organizations in the region.

A former board member and youth organizer for the Florida Immigrant Coalition, Mayra is part of the first generation of undocumented youth in Florida that began publicly sharing their stories. She is a Cofounder of United We Dream Action, and has served on both the United We Dream and United We Dream Action Board of Directors for 10 years combined. In 2019, she transitioned from her role as Board President for United We Dream Action and joined United We Dream’s staff as Development Director. In her role, she drove the fundraising strategy for United We Dream, United We Dream Action, and United We Dream Action PAC, steered thought leadership on organizational strategy, and coached senior leadership on resource mobilization.
