LULAC also Bestows Assembly Member Luis Alejo with the LULAC “Promotor de Oportunidades” Award
Sacramento, CA – Today, LULAC celebrates the establishment of its California Regional Office and honors Assembly Member Luis Alejo with the "Promotor de Oportunidades” Award. The Assembly Member is being recognized for his outstanding leadership and continued commitment to the Latino community and for his efforts to ensure access to education, quality healthcare and employment opportunities. Assembly Member Alejo also championed the Undocumented Residents Driver’s License legislation which ensures the safety of all drivers.
It is anticipated that the reception attendees will include elected officials, local community leaders, students from the Sacramento State University, nonprofit partners and LULAC members from across the state of California.
“There remains much work to be done in California. For example, our LULAC California membership can play a key role in putting the pressure on California Members of Congress to support an immigration reform bill that includes a pathway to citizenship,” said LULAC National President Margaret Moran. “Our California office will play a key role in making sure that our California members have the necessary information in order to ensure that this critical legislation is realizes for the millions of Californians who currently live in the shadows.”
The LULAC Regional Office in Sacramento was opened in 2011 in order to manage the expanding LULAC national programs in the region. The office was also established to better serve its members in the California area. For the past 84 years, LULAC has been committed to advancing the economic empowerment, educational attainment, civic engagement, health and civil rights of Latinos through community-based programs operating at more than 1000 LULAC councils nationwide. With over 135,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, LULAC continues to fight tirelessly for the betterment of Hispanic Americans on issues that impact the Hispanic community the most.
