Today, LULAC National President Margaret Moran issued the following statement in support of the nomination of San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro to serve as the country’s next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

“The League of United Latin American Citizens congratulates San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro on being nominated to serve as the country’s next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

“As Mayor of San Antonio, Castro has spearheaded efforts which are focused on revitalizing underserved communities; and has fought to ensure that young people are given every opportunity to finish school and realize their dreams.

“Mayor Castro’s exceptional experience as a public servant will be a tremendous asset as he takes the helm of our nation’s top housing post. In addition, his personal background will provide the compassion and appreciation for the most underserved in our community.

“LULAC is confident that under Mayor Castro’s leadership, many more communities will have access to important resources needed by those struggling to find affordable housing.”
