Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says How Texas Politicians Decide These Top Priority Issues Will Be a Bellwether for Latinos Across the United States

Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) released the organization's Texas Legislative Agenda for the first time nationally as a preview to Latino advocacy stakeholders across the country of what is ahead in sharply divided statehouses.

"There is no doubt that the Texas Capitol will again be the scene of a legislative battlefield," said Rodolfo Rosales Jr., Texas LULAC state director. "2023 marks a point of demarcation where politicians in states like Texas and Florida are setting out their very different policy views ahead of next year's presidential race," adds Rosales.

Texas LULAC says the priority issues include the following:

• Affordable Housing
• Affirmative Action
• All Mail-in- Ballot
• Automatic Payroll Deductions
• Child Welfare
• Criminal Justice Reform
• Discrimination & Racial Profiling
• Economic Development
• Education
• Health Care
• Human Trafficking
• Immigration
• LGBTQ
• Persons with Disabilities
• Police Reform
• Redistricting
• Veteran's Issues
• Women's Rights
• Voting Rights

"We are also monitoring how Texas policymakers will allocate funds from a record budget surplus of $33 billion," said Gloria Leal, LULAC General Counsel, and Texas legislative expert. "We are tracking how policymakers match that money to the needs contained in the LULAC Legislative Agenda. Our document serves to help our members, sponsors, and community allies observe the debate as bills make their way through the political process. LULAC is ready to add its voice to the discussion and ensure that we are being heard," she added.
