LULAC Congratulates Comcast on the Launch of Two New Hispanic Owned Independent Networks

November 15, 2016

The League of United Latin American Citizens, the nation’s largest and oldest Hispanic organization congratulates the Comcast Corporation for selecting two new Hispanic American-owned independent networks to be broadly distributed on Comcast cable systems beginning in January 2017.

The two new networks, Primo TV and Kids Central, will provide quality family programming targeted to bicultural Hispanic youth. “Kids Central and Primo TV’s unique focus on young bicultural Hispanics fill an unmet need in youth-oriented programming and further demonstrate our commitment to providing the best experience for bicultural Hispanic families,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Multicultural Services at ComcastCable.

LULAC is a member of Comcast’s Joint Diversity Council and we successfully negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding between Comcast and Latino organizations which included a provision whereby Comcast agreed to the creation of 4 English-language Latino owned networks to be carried by the company’s cable network. Primo TV and Kids Central will join existing channels El Rey Network and BabyFirst Americas to fulfill this commitment.

“We at LULAC are proud to have reached an agreement with Comcast that has resulted in the creation of these four Latino-owned channels,” stated LULAC National President Roger C. Rocha, Jr. “Today’s announcement is another big win for Latino diversity on TV and we look forward to helping Comcast and the new channels succeed by getting coverage throughout the industry.”

LULAC is particularly excited that Primo TV is being launched by V-Me, the Spanish language network which has worked closely with public television stations across the country to bring programing to Latino families. Primo TV is an English-language network that will appeal to bicultural Hispanic viewers ages 6-16 with high educational value and entertainment standards.

“LULAC congratulates Comcast, Primo TV and Kids Network on today’s announcement,” stated LULAC National Executive Director Brent Wilkes. “We know that the creation of diverse educational channels for multiple audiences helps build cultural understanding and create the conditions for positive environments in our nation’s increasingly diverse schools.”
