LULAC Women’s Commission Sends Best Wishes To All Mothers
Women of Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Mark Mother’s Day In Strength and Solidarity
Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Women’s Commission today issued the following statement in observance of Mother’s Day:

“To the millions of Latino mothers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, please accept our warmest and most sincere wish for a wonderful time with your family and loved ones today. From coast to coast and border to border, plus the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, come many voices, thoughts and prayers for all who wear the many hats and carry out the many duties of their roles daily.
We are with you, together as the leaders of our communities, speaking as one in saying we are strong and resolved to protect our families and ensure their future is secure in justice, freedom and opportunity. We will confront the challenges of oppression and inequality so that our sons and daughters can have a brighter, better tomorrow. We will stand shoulder to shoulder and defend women in their homes, workplace and anywhere where they are threatened, abused and yes, even killed because of their gender!
We will not relent because we cannot and will not leave our loved ones exposed to danger. They are the daughters, sisters, mothers and grandmothers of our Latino culture; the pillars of our people who rise early, work late into the night and watch over as our families sleep. This is who mothers are and on this Mother’s Day, may we be mindful of the life givers among us and cherish every moment we have together.”

May we each treasure the wisdom of our mother’s words of encouragement and love that carry us through life’s ups and downs. My mother instilled in me the spirit that I could do anything and I thank her for that.”

She never took her eyes off her mission to serve our community. The most important part of that legacy is how she involved us in all her community activities. “I want to say a blessing to all the mothers because they make such an impact on us from the day a child is born until they depart. Theirs is an unselfish love that helps mold the character and the values of their family. All mothers should be celebrated every day of the year, not only on Mother’s Day. The pandemic prevents us from celebrating in a way that we normally do by getting together and giving each other un abrazo. Yet, even that is an expression of love out of concern for the well-being of each other.”
