LULAC Wishes You Peace And Promise This Holiday Season

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says This Is a Time to Celebrate Our Most Precious Blessings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is sharing a message of goodwill and hope for millions of Latinos across America and Puerto Rico this holiday season.

“Traditionally at this time of year, we gather in joyous celebration with family and friends in observance of Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. Others simply enjoy the company of loved ones or make new acquaintances in a shared, festive human spirit. Yet, 2020 is giving a very different meaning to this year’s season of celebration, now replaced by the uncertainty of what may be ahead in the face of COVID-19.

This season, may we each take time to reflect about those who have passed during this tragic pandemic and give thanks for the courageous men and women on the frontlines in our nation’s hospitals and nursing homes doing their best night and day to save those most vulnerable from the coronavirus. Let us also celebrate the farm workers, meat packers, warehouse teams, truckers and grocery store employees who are making sure food shelves are stocked to keep our families nourished. Please remember many of them are doing so at risk to themselves and those they love but they have no other choice.

May we also take time to celebrate our first responders and public servants who are doing their best to keep our cities, states and nation functioning amid very difficult times. Think about the teachers who daily are dedicated to keeping our students focused on learning under the most isolated circumstances. And yes, think about yourself, your own health and celebrate every breath and beating of your heart, for it too is a gift.

Most importantly, celebrate the Christmas season’s call for peace and goodwill for all. Celebrate the kindling of the Hanukkah lights as a symbol of holiness possible through God’s mercy. Celebrate the seven principles of Kwanzaa in gratitude for life’s harvest anchored in family, community and purposeful activity every day. In every tongue, every culture and every faith, celebrate the gift of hope with outstretched arms and an embracing spirit for all we are blessed to have in our lives. This is the wish of LULAC for you this season.”
