Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) wishes to extend a heartfelt message to all mothers, those still with us, and those who have passed on but remain with us in spirit. As we celebrate Mother's Day, we take a moment to acknowledge the many roles that Latina mothers play in our lives.
Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President, states, "As I reflect on this Mother's Day, I am reminded of the values instilled in me by my mother. Her unwavering love, support, and sacrifice have made me who I am today. Her example taught me to fight for justice and never give up. As a father of two, I am grateful for the joy of sharing my life with Dr. Elba Garcia, the mother of my children, who also embodies these values. Latina mothers are the backbone of our families and communities, and I am proud to honor them on this special day."
Emma Lozano, LULAC National Vice President for Women, adds, "Mothers reflect God-given mercy and love and deserve our gratitude and respect. This year, we recognize the many mothers who have been uprooted from their homes and forced to flee for the safety of their children. These brave women seek asylum in our country, often leaving everything behind to pursue a better life. We must stand in solidarity with them and advocate for their rights, knowing that this is what a true mother would do."
Latina mothers are the heartbeat of our culture, and their tireless work and devotion have kept our communities thriving. Their love, guidance, and sacrifice shape the future of our society and inspire us to be better. "My mother, Ramona Mora Salazar, taught me the importance of resilience and being of service to others," said Rosa Rosales, former LULAC National President, honoring the memory of all mothers with us in spirit. "Her words and example have stayed with me throughout my life and continue to inspire me daily," she adds.
We also acknowledge the untold numbers of mothers who have fallen victim to human trafficking and exploitation. These women, often forced into dangerous situations, need LULAC's support and protection. "Being of service to others, especially during difficulties, was one of life's lessons taught by my mother, Carmen Guzman," says Margaret Moran, former LULAC National President. "She lived to 102 and displayed a love for others every day."
LULAC praises all mothers on this Mother's Day. Your love, strength, and sacrifice are invaluable to us, and we are forever grateful for all you do. We recognize your vital role in shaping our communities and future. We honor you, we thank you, and we celebrate you. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers of the world!
