LULAC: July 4th Marks The Birth Of Freedom For All
Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says This Year Is Testing Our True Values
Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) joins America in celebrating the spirit of freedom and liberty across our Republic which our founders envisioned in 1776 when they signed the Declaration of Independence.

“2020 is a time unlike any other in our modern history. Our country is dealing with the pandemic of the coronavirus and a pandemic of racial and political division while Juan y Maria worry about their jobs and the health and well-being of their families. In that sense, our country is being tested like never before and being forced to look within to re-discover its true values and principles. Was the promise our early leaders dreamed of just for some or did they truly see America as a land of opportunity and a nation for all?
This July 4th gives us all a chance to reflect about what kind of a country we want and what we can each do to make that happen. The greatness of our country is its diversity and the 60-million Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico are working, learning and contributing every day to the USA. May this celebration be for every person across our land and so we embrace every man, woman and child as part of the world’s greatest dream come true --- if we hold fast to the promise.”

“July 4th is always a wonderful day when families and friends get together, barbecue and share in the traditions of our country. This year, we will be socially distancing and yet, we can still exercise the freedom of caring for each other in so many different ways. For example, wearing a mask celebrates our love of family, friends, neighbors and even strangers with whom we may have near encounters. It’s considerate and helps keep us all healthier.
May we also take a moment this Independence Day to remember those who put on a uniform to protect our freedoms. This week especially, I ask that we give thought and say a prayer in memory of Fort Hood Army Private Vanessa Guillen and her family, grieving over this young, brave soldier’s loss. May she rest in peace and may all our sons and daughters in uniform be protected and out of harm’s way.
Soon, America will turn its attention to who will lead our nation for the next four years and many other electoral races will be decided in November. May we on this 4th of July rededicate ourselves to the freedom of voting and exercise our privilege and duty to do so. America is greatest when all our voices are heard and everyone’s vote is taken into account. Celebrate July 4th and may God bless you, your family and May God bless America.”
