LULAC Joins Forces with Capital Factory to Celebrate Top Latinx Talent

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens says response has been overwhelming to the 2018 Latinx Tech Summit being held in Austin, Texas, the number one state for business start-ups in the U.S.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing LULAC’s premiere technology event to one of the nation’s leading innovation hubs,” says Sindy Benavides, CEO. “Austin’s tech ecosystem is electric and provides a rich grounding for this year’s event. LULAC’s 2018 summit brings together Austin’s top Latinx tech talent for a full day event and features engaging peer-to-peer discussions, culturally relevant professional development, and unique opportunities to interact with Latinx public officials, artists, scientists, authors, business executives, scholars, entrepreneurs and Latinx tech leaders from every major industry,” she added.

The LULAC Latinx Tech Summit began in California’s Silicon Valley. Now in its third year, the aim of the 2018 Summit is to create a unique space for Latinx technologists to exchange ideas, share their professional journeys, and network with like-minded Latinx tech professionals in a unique multicultural (bilingual) environment.

“It was an aha moment that makes a lot of sense,” says Benavides. “Latinx mid-career tech professionals are leading innovation at every major tech company in Austin and across the globe, yet most of them remain hidden in plain sight. This year’s event is meant to honor their contributions, and strengthen the wrap-around community support that most Latinx technologists are missing at work.”

LULAC continues to focus on defending the civil rights of Latino men and women as it has throughout its 90-year history in the areas of education, employment, housing, economic opportunity, rights for seniors and addressing the needs of veterans. The goal now is to make the organization relevant to a new generation of Latinx millenials and to those who follow them. LULAC plans to stage Latinx Tech Summits in regional hubs across the country to elevate the profile of the work and contributions of Latinx technologists.

“We have a responsibility to prepare our sons and daughters to think about themselves in a new and dynamic way,” says Domingo Garcia, National President. “We must equip them to become leaders in a rapidly-changing and connected world, to master the universal language of artificial intelligence or AI and to replace back-breaking labor with the limitless power of the human mind. This too is the future of LULAC and we are committed to be at the forefront to propel Latinx technologist into un nuevo día,” he said.

The 2018 Latinx Tech Summit is being held at the Capital Factory located at 701 Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701. For more information, go to www.latinxtechsummit.org
