Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) condemns the alleged actions of two high-ranking staff members for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and others involved in the so-called migrant relocation program. LULAC stands in solidarity with the Latino refugees subjected to kidnapping, deceit, and exploitation, transported thousands of miles away from their intended destinations under fake promises of jobs, housing, and assistance. Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President, issued the following statement:

"The victims of this appalling scheme were lured onto flights hoping for a better future, only to discover that none of their offers were genuine. Many in the past have been abandoned at the doorsteps of Vice-President Kamala Harris' Washington, DC residence and on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Now, in Sacramento, California, these vulnerable individuals found themselves in unfamiliar surroundings, deceived and discarded.

"LULAC commends Bexar County, Texas, Sheriff Javier Salazar for his criminal investigation into this matter. The conclusions drawn by Sheriff Salazar affirm that the transportation of these refugees amounted to both felony and misdemeanor criminal activity. We fully support his efforts to bring justice to the victims and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. LULAC demands that the California Attorney General and local sheriff also investigate these kidnappings and human moral fraud.

In addition, LULAC urges the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate potential violations of federal laws that may have occurred while transporting refugees across state lines. We must determine if any laws were broken and ensure that justice is served accordingly.

LULAC issues a nationwide alert to all Latino refugee communities to prevent further exploitation of vulnerable communities. We strongly advise individuals not to accept transportation offers from unknown individuals promising jobs, housing, and assistance without verifying the legitimacy of such proposals with local government authorities. It is essential to safeguard against the trafficking of individuals for profit or political purposes.

President Garcia denounces politicians who use Latinos as mere piñatas and props in their quest for political gain. Such actions are morally reprehensible and an affront to the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity. LULAC will continue its tireless efforts to protect the rights and well-being of the Latino community. We call upon our allies, government officials, and law enforcement agencies to join us in this endeavor and ensure that justice is served for the victims of this egregious act."
