THE 86TH LULAC NATIONAL CONVENTION FAMILIA: THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF OUR SOCIETY
May 18, 2015
Salt Lake City, Utah - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will host its 86th LULAC National Convention from July 7 to July 11 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
With the theme, Familia: The Building Blocks of our Society, the 86th Annual National Convention and Exposition will address the most pressing issues for the Latino community. Utah was selected as the host city because of the growing diversity in the city. In 2012, minorities accounted for a third of the 40,940 total new state residents. Meanwhile, the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce estimates the state’s Latino purchasing power at $6.4 billion.
The LULAC Convention includes national candidates, members of Congress, cabinet secretaries, local elected officials, celebrities, academic experts, and seminars and workshops with expert panelists addressing the issues that affect our communities most—from immigration reform and education to health care and veterans’ benefits. Separate tracks for youth and young adults provide our emerging leaders with workshops on community service, leadership development, career opportunities and advocacy training.
The LULAC National Convention in Salt Lake City is expected to attract more than 20,000 participants.
The LULAC National Convention hosts the Federal Training Institute (FTI) —an intensive and structured career development program for government employees which will take place from July 8-10. This year the FTI will also host workshops for job seekers looking for opportunities in the Federal Government.
One of the most popular components of the 2015 LULAC Convention is the Exposition which will feature dozens of corporate partners, government agencies, colleges and universities, labor unions, armed forces and non-profit organizations displaying their products and services while recruiting Latino employees at the LULAC Career Fair. Families will not want to miss the excellent free entertainment provided at the LULAC stage, free screenings at the health fair, housing counseling and financial workshops.
The general public is invited to join members of the largest and oldest Hispanic organization as they gather to address critical issues impacting our community and our country. All events, except meal functions, are free and open to the public.
LULAC appreciates the contributions from the sponsors that include Toyota as Presenting Sponsor; Walmart as Diamond Sponsor; AT&T, Dell, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors as Presidential Sponsors; and Southwest Airlines as Judicial Sponsor.*
*Confirmed sponsors as of May 18, 2015.
