National John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day

May 8, 2021

  • The voting rights of America’s Voters of Color and Youth Voters are under attack nationally by state legislators introducing and passing laws to suppress their participation in elections.
  • The 2020 Elections and the 2021 Georgia U.S. Senate Run-off Election saw a record turnout of Black, Brown, Asian, Native American and Young voters which has sparked a national backlash of voter suppression legislation across many of America’s state legislative bodies.
  • Voting Rights Coalition Partners are coming together across America to fight back and demand preservation and expansion of voting rights.
  • The Late Congressman John Lewis shed his blood crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge to Fight for Black voters and Voters of Color to participate in America’s electoral Process and to demand protection of the franchise for Black voters and all Voters of Color by enactment of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
  • HR1 & HR4, DC Statehood and addressing the filibuster, are essential steps toward restoring and realizing the dream of Congressman John Lewis’ “beloved community.”
  • John Lewis ‘Good Trouble’ Votercades and Marches have proven successful in inspiring awareness in Young voters and in communities of color across the nation.
  • This collective day of action will ignite massive public support to address one of the greatest obstacles to the passage of civil rights and voting rights, one of the last vestiges of slavery,…the filibuster!
  • This “John Lewis National Day of Action” will show public support for restoring the effectiveness of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which was decimated and eroded by the Supreme Court in Shelby v. Holder.
  • This national organizing strategy will introduce a new concept to engage young voters and “next generation voters”...a “Virtual Voter Activist Village.”
