Public service demands in the 21st century require innovative and dynamic leadership across Federal sector to face the myriad of challenges and opportunities. The Federal government’s investment in the education, training and development of its workforce is paramount for ensuring mission and organizational success.

The Federal Training Institute (FTI/Institute) an educational division of the League of United Latin American Citizens, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, has a long-standing public service goal and tradition of partnering with Federal agencies to offer pro bono leadership training and development opportunities for up and coming public service leaders.

One of the Institute’s goals for 2016 is to pilot a six-month, no-cost mentoring program for career Federal employees in general schedule (GS) grades 14 and 15. Titled the Leaders Mentoring Program (LMP), this competitive program in compliance with 5 U.S.C. Chapter 41 will run from September 2016 – March 2017. It is designed to provide one-on-one leadership mentoring for up to 25 participants selected for participation in the pilot. Candidates for the program will be selected by a board of former Senior Executive Service executives and volunteer executives currently in Federal service.

Federal employees selected for the LMP will be notified by July 8, 2016. Supervisory approval must be secured by participants selected for the program before final acceptance into the program. Agencies will be requested to provide employees the time to participate in training and mentoring activities throughout the duration of the six-month pilot program.
