Katia Quintanilla serves as a Research and Policy fellow at LULAC’s national headquarters in Washington, DC. She is extremely excited to have this opportunity and is looking forward to contributing to the amazing work that LULAC does. She is the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants and she was born and raised in Long Island, New York. She is in her last semester at American University studying a major in Political Science with a concentration in Law and Politics with a double minor in Spanish and Latinx Studies. She is an involved student; a member of her university’s chapter of LULAC, Latinos en Acción (a chapter of United We Dream), the First-Generation Student Union, and she serves as the Student Representative on the board of the Department of Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies. She spent this past summer interning at the House of Representatives where she was introduced to the inner workings of the legislative processes. She plans to take a gap year after finishing her undergraduate degree at American before starting law school. During her gap year she hopes to work as a paralegal in either Washington, DC or New York, or both to expand her knowledge of the legal field. She is passionate about civil rights and immigration reform. She hopes to pursue these fields and fight discrimination against marginalized communities. When she is not working, you can find her studying at a cafe drinking a vanilla latte.
