Elisha Novoa serves as a Policy & Legislation Fellow at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). She is from Pacoima, California, located in the San Fernando Valley. She is a third-year student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), majoring in Public Affairs and Sociology. At UCLA, she became a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., the first and largest Latina sorority. With Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (H.O.P.E.), she has conducted qualitative and quantitative research, including interviews and surveys, to make recommendations addressing barriers to accessing healthcare in the Latina/o/x community. This past fall, she interned with Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur, who represents California Assembly District 51, where she focused on assisting constituents in contacting government agencies. In the coming years, she plans to continue her education by pursuing dual degree programs and earning a Master’s degree in Social Welfare and a Juris Doctor (J.D.). Growing up in Los Angeles, she has witnessed many disparities faced by people of color in low-income areas. Motivated by this, she aims to focus on helping the community in areas of education, healthcare, housing, and immigration. She is passionate about making sure there are equal and equitable opportunities for all.
