Jason Kanetakis serves as a Research & Policy Fellow at LULAC’s National Office in Washington, DC. He is a newly naturalized citizen, having been raised in Athens, Greece, before moving to San Diego in 2012. Jason has since maintained contact with both of those cities — which he considers his dual hometowns — as well as their strong respective cultures. Currently, he is finishing his double Bachelor of Arts at the University of California, Davis, in Political Science and Global Sociology. He has worked in California’s 49th Congressional District, conducting voter outreach in the district’s Latino centers, and he has volunteered in voting turnout campaigns for the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections. He has also worked at Greece’s National Parliament and the U.S. State Department, where he helped teach Greek to diplomats. At LULAC, Jason will begin to work on the driving policy issues of today from within the organization’s aim to decrease income inequality, improve educational and economic opportunities, and enhance the political influence of the Latino population that was first to welcome him to the country and remind him so much of his native Greek culture - and food.
