Cindy Fabian is a third-year Environmental Studies major with a minor in Poverty, Inequality, and Social Justice at the University of California Santa Barbara. She is a Policy and Legislation Fellow at LULAC’s Office in Washington D.C. Originally from Los Angeles, Cindy is excited to work with LULAC and learn more about the current problems that the Latino community faces and some potential local and federal solutions that can be incorporated. Cindy has dedicated her college years to social justice and political advocacy by joining clubs and organizations like the California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG), which is a student-led activist group and nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a better, more sustainable future through campaigning against issues that students want to fix. Last year, UCSB students focused on a campaign to ban plastic bags in California. With the help of many students, we were able to coordinate and manage our time to get petitions signed by students. Our immense planning and organization led to our success in passing the bill in California to ban plastic bags.
