Jimena Cortes

Political Science

University of California, Los Angeles

Jimena Cortes serves as a Policy & Legislation Fellow at LULAC’s National Office in Washington, DC. She is thrilled to begin her journey at LULAC, where she aims to learn and grow, and is eager to pursue her endeavors from the frontlines. Her objective is to become an immigration lawyer and advocate for her community. She is ardent about this cause, and LULAC makes it possible to gain experience in this sector of law. She is a rising senior at UCLA, studying political science, with a minor in professional writing, as she also has a penchant for writing. She is an involved student; she is in the marching band of UCLA, where she plays the saxophone, also known as the Solid Gold Sound of UCLA. In addition to this, she is also in a mariachi known as Uclatlán. She is also involved in the Grupo Folklorico at school, as a first-generation student; it is very important for her to embrace her Mexican culture and express it proudly. After graduation, she aims to continue her education at law school. She is on track to graduate from UCLA and build a career in immigration law, with the goal to launch her own firm to support underserved communities. This ambition stems from growing up in a Latino community, and as a child of migrant farm workers, she is determined to help her community. It's not just a law degree; it’s the foundation of a mission to stand up for who those who can’t, which correlates to the work being done and achieved here at the League of United Latin American Citizens.
