Carlos Gonzalez currently serves as a Policy and Legislation Fellow at the League of United Latin American Citizen Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and goes into spaces with such a bright smile, always tries his best to maintain a positive attitude, even when facing stressful situations. Although Carlos’ lived experiences have been hard to navigate, this does not stop him from striving as an underclassmen, first-generation, Latine, LGBTQIA+ college student in higher education. At the University of California, Berkeley, Carlos has persistently integrated himself. His work as Vice Chair for the ASUC Grants and Scholarship Foundation, DEI Committee Executive, founder member of the LGBTQIA+ Committee Director for Unidad en Educacion, an advocacy intern for the Amplified Sanctuary Department for asylum and refugee seekers has deeply helped him impact his community positively. He has seen first and foremost the struggles and challenges UC Berkeley students face. This inspired Carlos to run for the Associated Students of University of California Senate. Carlos received 317 #1 votes from UC Berkeley students, and was the only elected-senator endorsed by the Latine and LGBTQIA+ community on his campus. Carlos hopes to strive in his position at LULAC, form connections with others, but most importantly gain knowledge and experience to bring back to his community.
