Alyssa Martinez serves as a Policy and Research Fellow at LULAC’s National Office in Washington, D.C for the Spring 2025 Program of the University of California, Washington Program (UCDC). She is a Mexican-Salvadoran American from Southern California and has strong ties to the Orange County area. She is honored and enthusiastic to gain immeasurable exposure and experience in the world of policy that serves the Latino community and its members. She is a current third year at the University of California, Santa Cruz who is expected to graduate this spring with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Legal Studies. During her time at the UC Santa Cruz, she has held leadership positions such as Recruitment Chair for Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and President & Cofounder of She Lifts Women In Fitness Club at UCSC, that have fueled her passion of serving, educating, and bringing together students in her community. She has previously interned at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office as a summer law clerk where she assisted in casework research, witness interviews, and trial preparation within their Family Violence Division thus receiving recognition for her exceptional work. She is especially interested in mental health law, criminal prosecution, and prison reform, especially in regards to adolescents. After graduation, Alyssa will be taking a gap year to prepare to attend law school, where she will focus her study on criminal law in hopes of one day becoming an attorney. During her gap year, she hopes to continue being an outlet for social justice by interning in Southern California and volunteering her time to organizations where she can broaden her perspectives of the legal profession.
