The League of United Latin American Citizens, this country's oldest and largest civil rights organization, seeks several highly talented and dedicated interns for our regional office in Sacramento, California. Interns work with our policy, community programs, communications, membership, special events, development, education, housing, fiscal or executive departments. The positions are unpaid and without stipends. The goal of this internship is to expose undergraduate students to the careers in the Latino non-profit field.
Internship assignments differ throughout the year depending on LULAC’s calendar of events and according to the interest of both the intern and staff. LULAC staff provides maximum exposure to multiple policy topics and departments. Internship projects may include but are not limited to the following:
• Conduct community outreach to the Latino community to promote LULAC’s programs and policy priorities;
• Participate in forums, seminars, conference calls and events around Sacramento;
• Plan and execute special events on behalf of LULAC across California and the United States;
• Create promotional materials, flyers, newsletters and talking points;
• Monitor and evaluate national programs around technology, housing, education, health, and/or social media;
• Develop and update databases, and monitor LULAC’s stakeholders and funders;
• Assist with grant writing and fundraising;
• Plan and participate in meetings with Members of Congress, State Assembly and Federal Agencies;
• Produce reports and track legislation;
• Research and evaluate how legislation will impact the Latino community.
• Perform special projects to be determined by LULAC staff.
Education:
LULAC interns are engaged in a number of hands-on activities. We rely heavily on our interns to help us carry out the important work of LULAC to advance the cause of Hispanic Americans in the United States.
Experience:
Applicants are required to have excellent academic records and strong writing and communication skills. Thorough knowledge of the Hispanic community and current issues is a plus. Applicants should also have a deep sense of commitment to advancing the rights of Hispanic Americans. Ability to write and speak Spanish and English fluently is highly desirable as is extensive experience with using computers, writing, and research skills.
