Corporate Alliance

The LULAC Corporate Alliance is an advisory board composed of more than thirty of the nation's leading companies who seek to foster stronger partnerships between corporations and the Hispanic community and to provide advice and assistance to the LULAC organization. Corporations participating in the Alliance work with LULAC in developing national and community-based programs to address the needs of the Hispanic community and to ensure that the nation's future workforce obtains the necessary education and skills to keep America productive.

LULAC Corporate Alliance projects have included the establishment of a permanent national headquarters for LULAC in Washington, DC; the establishment of the LULAC Legislative Friendship Awards Gala; and the LULAC Media Project.

LULAC salutes the members of the Corporate Alliance whose strong support has helped the organization carry out its vital mission.

Chrysler is the #3 automaker in the US. Perhaps best known for its dominance of the minivan market, the company makes a wide variety of vehicles, from small cars to Dodge Ram pickup trucks, under the Chrysler, Dodge, Eagle, Jeep, and Plymouth brands. Chrysler also offers a range of financing services to its dealers and customers. Though the company's products are sold worldwide and it has manufacturing operations in Belgium, Singapore, and South Africa, the vast majority of Chrysler's sales are made in the US.

Coca-Cola is the world's largest soft-drink company, with a 48% market share and two of the three top-selling soft drinks (#1 Coca-Cola classic and #3 diet Coke. Its more than 160 brands of beverages -- carbonated, sports, and milk-based drinks; juices; teas; and coffees -- are sold in some 200 countries. The company is also the world's largest distributor of juice drinks (including Minute Maid). In the US, where Coke has over 40% of the market, Coca-Cola classic is #1 and Sprite the fastest-growing major soft drink. Other brands include Barq's root beer, Fruitopia, and Surge. About two-thirds of the company's sales and three-fourths of its profits come from overseas.

Adolph Coors is the third-largest brewer in the US. Coors has been introducing a variety of new brews and has built up its stock to over two dozen different beers, including Coors, Blue Moon, George Killian's, and Keystone. Coors Light accounts for about two-thirds of sales. Besides regular beer, the company makes Zima, a lightly carbonated alcoholic beverage; Coors Cutter, a nonalcoholic beverage; and Coors Rocky Mountain Lemon Lime Sparkling Water.

Ford Motor Company is the world's largest truck maker and the #2 manufacturer of cars and trucks combined. It makes vehicles under the Aston Martin, Ford, Jaguar, Lincoln, and Mercury brands and has over 70 different models on the market. Two of its biggest successes are the Ford Taurus and the F-series Ford trucks. The company also has stakes in foreign-based automakers, including Kia, and an interest giving it effective control of Japanese automaker Mazda. About a third of Ford's sales are outside the US. Its Ford Motor Credit subsidiary is the US's #1 auto financier, and Ford also owns 83% of Hertz, the #1 car-rental firm in the US.

General Motors (GM) is the world's largest industrial enterprise and the #1 manufacturer of cars and trucks. In the US its Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Geo, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn brands account for about one out of three autos on the road. Kraft Foods, a subsidiary of Philip Morris, is North America's largest packaged-foods company. The firm has about 60 manufacturing and processing facilities and 230 distribution centers throughout the US. Its products are varied -- cheese, processed meats, coffee, cereals, salad dressings, beverages, and barbecue sauces. The company's major brands include Kraft, Velveeta, Oscar Mayer, General Foods International Coffees, Kool-Aid, Stove Top, Tombstone and DiGiorno pizza products, and the Taco Bell line of grocery products.

MasterCard is the #2 payment system in the world. The company provides services for its more than 23,000 member financial institutions, which actually issue the MasterCard credit and Maestro debit cards. The 405 million MasterCard and Maestro card holders have access to 14 million merchant and ATM locations worldwide. The company, launched in 1966 by a group of bankers, is increasing its product offerings, targeting new customers, and expanding the number of places where it is accepted to such unorthodox venues as buses and doctors' offices.

McDonald's, which boasts one of the world's most valuable brand names is the world's #1 fast-food chain. It operates more than 23,000 restaurants worldwide, and its more than 12,300 US outlets have given it a 42% share of the nation's fast-food hamburger business. Most are the familiar freestanding variety, with a heavy emphasis on playscapes to attract its core audience: kids. Children influence almost half the visits to the chain. McDonald's is also building mini-units with simplified menus at alternative locations (such as Wal-Marts). Nearly two-thirds of the restaurants are franchised. Overseas restaurants account for nearly 60% of the company's sales and profits.

PepsiCo is the #2 soft-drink maker in the world. But beverages (Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Slice) make up just one-half of sales for the diversified food and drink company. The other half comes from Frito-Lay, the world's #1 maker of snack chips. Corn chips (such as Fritos and Doritos) and potato chips (including Lay's and Ruffles) each account for about 40% of the company's salty chip sales, and PepsiCo also makes Rold Gold pretzels and other snacks.

Sears, the nation's #2 retailer, is known throughout America for its trademark department stores. It is also focusing on freestanding specialty stores built around narrower product lines such as automotive (Parts America, National Tire and Battery), home furnishings (Sears HomeLife), and hardware (Sears Hardware, Orchard Supply Hardware). Sears' strongest brand names are Craftsman, DieHard, and Kenmore. In addition, Sears offers home services such as repair and installation of major household appliances.

One of the largest oil and gas companies in the US, Shell Oil produces and markets crude oil, natural gas and chemical products. Its parent company, Royal Dutch/Shell Group, is the largest petroleum company in the world. Following industry trends, Shell Oil operates a number of its refineries, exploration units, and chemical plants in association with other domestic and foreign concerns. Most of the company's US production of crude oil takes place in California, West Texas, and the Gulf of Mexico. Natural gas production is concentrated in South Texas and Michigan and along the Gulf Coast.

Univision Communications owns the nation's largest Spanish-language television network, holding a more than 88% share of the fast-growing US Spanish-language TV audience. Its Univision network owns 21 broadcast stations and has another 27 broadcast affiliates and nearly 850 cable affiliates. Its Galavision cable network reaches more than 2.5 million households. The networks provide 24 hours daily of first-run programming -- most of which is provided by Mexico's Grupo Televisa and Venezuelan network Venevision. It also offers a TV home-shopping service in a venture with USA Networks.
