Today, LULAC leaders were joined by Melanie Healey, the North American President for P&G, to share details about the Sponsorship of the Convention & Expo.

“Supporting LULAC’s Annual National Convention is the perfect fit for P&G as a continuation of our long-standing partnership to touch and improve the lives of our Latino community on their road to success and prosperity,” said Healey. “We are honored to be hosting the convention in our hometown of Cincinnati and we encourage everyone in the community to take part in this great event.”

The Convention is the Nation’s premier Latino gathering and brings together leaders in government, business, labor and the community for a week filled with renowned speakers, important seminars, celebrities and exciting entertainment. Seminars and workshops will feature expert panelists addressing the issues that affect Latino communities most, from immigration reform and education to health care and civil rights. Separate tracks for Youth and Young Adults provide emerging Latino leaders with workshops on community service, leadership development, career opportunities and advocacy training.

“LULAC has had a long and productive partnership with P&G,” stated Margaret Moran, LULAC National President. “From scholarships to technology centers and from our Young Readers program to our national convention, P&G has worked hand in hand with LULAC to address the needs of the fastest growing population in the United States. We are delighted to be coming to P&G’s headquarters city with our national convention and we are grateful for their strong support of our organization and our community.”

According to the latest Census figures, the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area is home to 125,000 Latinos and is one of the fastest-growing Hispanic communities in the nation. In Cincinnati proper, the Census estimates the Hispanic population to have doubled over the last 10 years. This emerging Latino community is re-defining the social, demographic and cultural landscape of Cincinnati and it creates the ideal context for the LULAC National Convention to open dialogue and forge partnerships.

“The impact of the LULAC convention on Cincinnati USA is profound," said Dan Lincoln, president and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau. "More than 20,000 attendees, millions of dollars for the regional economy, the sense of community pride in hosting such a significant event. But even more importantly, our friends at LULAC are gathering influential people and big thinkers right here in Cincinnati to spark creative dialogue, share ideas and inspire positive change for our neighborhoods, our communities and our businesses. The impact will ripple out from Cincinnati across the country and around the world, and we're proud to be a part of it.”

Additional local sponsors of the 2011 LULAC Annual National Convention and Expo include: Duke, Kroger, Luxottica, Macy's, Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau.
