As a part of LULAC’s Latinos Living Healthy Initiative, the annual Ferias de Salud are held in several states across the country and have drawn in more than 75,000 people from various groups, including differing income levels, faith-backgrounds, universities, sports clubs, health practices, public sector organizations, and many more. The Latinos Living Healthy Initiative empowers communities to make healthier life choices and maintain healthy lifestyles. The initiative addresses health disparities among Latinos through interactive and dynamic experiences, ranging from one-on-one workshops to public health education campaigns.
The national Ferias de Salud bring Latino community members together with health professionals, major corporations, leading sports icons, and key community leaders to gain vital resources and valuable experiences. Latinos become empowered to be active advocators in establishing healthy families and communities. The Ferias de Salud illuminate the importance of including nutrition and fitness to the everyday lives of Latino families and children. Engaging participants in educative entertainment has established a network of 135,000 community volunteers into a health and wellness public campaign.
LULAC’s 2015 series of Ferias de Salud will continue to offer key resources such as health screenings and services, fun physical activities, healthy Latino cuisine, and many other physical and mental wellness engagements to fuel the fight against obesity, diabetes, and other health disparities affecting Latino communities. The League of United Latin American Citizens is proud to host the Ferias de Salud free and open to the public; inviting many and all to experience Latino music, family, health, and culture while learning to live healthier lives. The event is free and open to the public.
