Today, the U.S. Senate passed historic comprehensive immigration reform. The bipartisan bill, which passed by a vote of 68 – 32, represents the first overhaul in U.S. immigration law since 1986.
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), at its 84th annual National Convention, conducted an immigration reform town hall where members discussed recent developments in the Senate impacting immigration reform legislation.
According to the Congressional Budget Office
(CBO), Senate Bill 744 would add significant economic benefits –
silencing anti-immigration advocates who claim immigration reform
would be a drain on the economy. Increases in federal and tax
revenues are expected due to increases in income and payroll taxes.
