David Huerta

President, SEIU California and SEIU-United Service Workers West

David Huerta

David Huerta is a nationally recognized American labor leader and the current President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California, the union’s second-largest state affiliate, as well as President of SEIU-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW). A lifelong advocate for immigrant rights, economic justice, and workers' dignity, Huerta has spent over three decades organizing and empowering frontline workers across California.

Born and raised in Los Angeles County, Huerta began his career as an organizer with the Justice for Janitors campaign in the 1990s, where he led efforts to secure better wages and conditions for low-wage workers in Los Angeles.

He rose through the ranks of SEIU and became President of SEIU-USWW in 2014. Under his leadership, the union has expanded its footprint across the building services, security, and airport sectors while centering racial justice and immigration reform in its campaigns.

In recognition of his efforts to advance immigrant integration and worker empowerment, Huerta was honored by the Obama administration as a "Champion of Change" for promoting citizenship in the workplace.

Throughout his career, Huerta has remained committed to building a labor movement rooted in solidarity, inclusion, and the belief that all work has dignity. He is married and the proud father of two children.
