Thomas Saenz
President and General Counsel of MALDEF
Thomas A. Saenz is the President and General Counsel of MALDEF, where he leads national efforts to promote the civil rights of Latinos across the United States. Born and raised in Southern California, Saenz’s lifelong commitment to advocacy began with clerkships in the U.S. District and Appeals Courts, leading to a prolific career that includes serving as lead counsel in landmark challenges to anti-immigrant legislation and as Counsel to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. A summa cum laude graduate of Yale University and Yale Law School, he leverages his extensive legal expertise to argue pivotal cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and provide high-level policy advice on major civil rights initiatives. Today, Thomas continues to drive systemic change as a leader in organizations like the Leadership Conference for Civil and Human Rights, bridging the gap between high-impact litigation and community-based educational equity.
