Hugo Beteta is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guatemala to the United States, a distinguished economist, and a development planner with an extensive career in macroeconomic management and public policy. His lifelong commitment to regional progress began with his doctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), leading to high-level leadership roles such as Director of the UN ECLAC Subregional Office in Mexico and Secretary General of the Inter-American Development Bank. A former Minister of Finance and National Planning Secretary of Guatemala, he leverages his academic background from the University of Michigan and Harvard University to drive sustainable development and regional integration. Today, Hugo continues to drive systemic change as a recognized global reformer and transparency advocate, bridging the gap between rigorous economic research and transformative international diplomacy.
