Sol Ortega

Senior Advisor for Public Engagement, The White House

Sol Ortega

Sol Ortega was born in Lima, Peru and raised in Kissimmee, Florida. She is a first-generation college student and holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Spanish and Latin American studies from the University of Florida. Sol knows first-hand how decisions made in Washington can impact communities like hers.

Sol has a strong legislative background having worked in Congress for five years. She served as the Deputy Director of Engagement for Senate Democratic Minority Leader, Charles E. Schumer. In her role, she served as a liaison for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and various national advocacy groups and the Leader’s office elevating the voices of underpresented communities. Prior to the Senate she worked in the House of Representatives for Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09). Most recently Sol served as the Deputy Director for Latino Engagement for Building Back Together working to promote President Biden's legislative agenda with national and local Latino groups.

She is a strong proponent of challenging the status quo and bringing marginalized groups to the table– values that have guided her career.

Sol is an alumni of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Insitute (CHLI) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). She's a member of the Young Professionals Council in LULAC.
