To President Nayib Bukele and President Donald J. Trump:
We, the undersigned advocates for human rights and the rule of law, write to demand justice for Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Mr. Abrego Garcia, a longtime Maryland resident and father, was forcibly and unlawfully deported to El Salvador despite a U.S. court order that he remain in the United States. He now languishes in a Salvadoran prison in direct violation of that court’s ruling. This egregious breach of due process is not just an error—it is an affront to the Constitutional rights that underpin both our nations’ justice systems.
Your administrations’ refusal to comply with a federal judge’s order (upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court) sets a dangerous precedent. Ignoring a lawful court mandate undermines the rule of law and the separation of powers.
Silence or inaction in the face of a court order is unacceptable. The world is watching for your leadership in this pivotal moment. Stand up for the rule of law, honor the court’s decision, and restore Mr. Abrego Garcia’s freedom.
