Javier Cazares
Father, Former Candidate for Uvalde, TX County Commissioner Precinct 2
LULAC National Service Award
Javier Cazares is an Army veteran and father. His 9-year old daughter, Jacklyn Cazares, tragically passed away in the Robb Elementary Massacre that occurred on May 24, 2022. Upon hearing the news of the gunman on his daughter’s campus, Javier and other worried parents gathered at the school and begged for police officers to go into the building and protect the children. The precinct’s lack of action and unfortunate timing caused a strife in the community following the school shooting. Cazares had seen this issue and his daughter’s consequent death as an opportunity to bring honor upon her. Cazares ran as a write-in candidate for the Uvalde County Commissioner Precinct with a mission to implement gun legislation reform and proactive training for police officers. Today, Cazares works hard to create a safe community for families in Uvalde, Texas. His commitment to his family, county, and LULAC community is an inspiration that we honor.
