Food Workers Rights Now
Theirs are the hands that harvest, process and bring us the food of America’s great bounty. From the fields that yield our vegetables and fruits to the farms and ranches that are the important sources of beef, pork and chicken. These are the millions of Latino men and women who make up the daily, vital human chain of America’s food lifeline.
Now, with COVID-19, our nation’s field crews, farm and ranch hands plus our food production plant workers, are being forced to place their own lives in grave danger every day just to earn a living.
LULAC believes all workers have rights:
- The right to work safely with protections against COVID-19.
- The right to be tested and treated for the virus’ symptoms.
- The right to stay home if they’re unwell without losing their pay.
- And the right to report conditions they deem dangerous without being fired.
- Most of all, the right to work with dignity.
- And the right to be treated like human beings, not disposable equipment.
This is LULAC’s COVID-19 Statement of Workers’ Rights in America.
Our nation’s commitment to those who feed and nourish us.
