WASHINGTON, D.C. – LULAC National Executive Director Brent Wilkes has issued the following statement on the death of teenaged Michael Brown of Ferguson, Missouri:

“Our prayers go out to Michael Brown’s family and friends who, instead of planning a graduation party, are planning his funeral. The pain and anguish of losing a child are unimaginable, especially when the child was taken at the hands of those sworn to protect and serve the community.

“We are encouraged that the U.S. Attorney General has opened an inquiry of the circumstances surrounding Michael Brown’s death and are expecting nothing but full cooperation from local and state authorities to ensure a just and transparent investigation.

“LULAC stands ready and vigilant to ensure that justice and accountability are served and hope that as investigations are concluded, the trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve can be preserved.”
