WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Verizon sent a letter of support for comprehensive immigration reform to the group of Senators spearheading the effort, known generally as the Gang of Eight. The group includes four Republican and four Democratic Senators: Schumer, Bennet, Durbin, Flake, Graham, McCain, Menendez, and Rubio.

LULAC particularly appreciates that Verizon broadly supports comprehensive immigration reform in its entirety rather than carving out only certain portions of the legislative proposal. We also appreciate that Verizon sent the letter directly to the Senators as opposed to participating in a coalition with other businesses, which further underscores its strong support for this critical legislation.

“That Verizon felt so compelled to independently urge Congress to mobilize on this critical issue further emphasizes the essential nature of passing comprehensive immigration reform,” stated LULAC National President Margaret Moran. “We congratulate Verizon for stepping up and recognizing that immigration reform will benefit not only corporate America but the nation as a whole.”

Verizon sent the letter of support to the Gang of Eight early this morning, stressing that the contributions of immigrant Americans have made this country a pioneer in technologic advances and has strengthened the fabric of our society.

“Comprehensive immigration reform has garnered support from various sectors of society, including a diverse base of civil rights organizations, labor organizations, religious institutions, and corporate America. We will maintain the dialogue with Congress to ensure the dreams of the immigrant community are realized,” concluded LULAC National President Margaret Moran.
