As the debt ceiling and deficit reduction debate rages on, it is more important than ever for you to keep the momentum going and step up pressure on Congress to balance our budget and reduce our deficit without hurting working class families. A soon as today, Congress could vote on a plan that could undermine Medicaid, a life-saving program that our children, seniors, and people with disabilities depend on. Medicaid is especially crucial for Latinos and African Americans, because without it, half of these children would lose health coverage. Yet while Congress is willing to put the lives and well-being of the most vulnerable at risk, they are not prepared to ask that others pay their fair share.

We cannot let this happen! Congress needs to hear from you today.

Call 888-876-6242, toll free, and tell you Representative and your two Senators that they nation needs a fair budget plan that protects Medicaid and doesn’t make life worse for those who are already struggling.

The stakes for our communities are incredibly high. This is why on the eve of Medicaid and Medicare’s 46th birthday, Families USA, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the National Conference of La Raza (NCLR) are teaming up to spread the word of the importance of taking action to defend this vital lifeline. As we gear up to commemorate the significance of these life-saving medical programs, it has never been more important to take action to defend them. For the poorest and sickest, Medicaid provides the only access to health care, yet if these programs are cut, these individuals will face additional barriers in accessing health care services and/or go without insurance.

We must demand a budget plan that reduces the deficit responsibly and works for all Americans – not just for millionaires and billionaires. Congress should create a fair budget plan that balances spending cuts and revenue increases, and that protects and preserves our nation’s commitment to providing a safety net to millions of the most vulnerable communities.

Call 888-876-6242, toll free, to connect with the Capitol switchboard.

SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO YOUR REPRESTATIVE AND SENATORS:

  • Resolve our nation’s debt crisis without hurting low-income and middle class American families, seniors, and people with disabilities
  • Protect Medicaid in the negotiations to address our nation’s debt limit
  • Reduce the deficit through a balanced approach that addresses both spending cuts and revenue increases but that preserves programs that are critical for the vulnerable.
  • If you have a personal story about the importance of Medicaid to you or your family, consider sharing it to maximize the impact of your call.
Once you’ve called all three, magnify your voice with additional actions.

Thank you for all that you do,
