Nation’s Largest & Oldest Civil Rights Organization Says King is a Repeat Offender Who Sees Nothing Wrong In His Racist Statements

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) said Tuesday Republican Congressman Steve King is unfit to continue serving in public office following his latest racist comments questing why white supremacy is considered offensive.

“It’s one thing if a person commits an unintentional mistake and is willing to recognize the error and expresses regret,” says Domingo Garcia, National President. “However, Representative King has time and again with deliberate intent shown that he holds racist views for which he is absolutely unapologetic but what’s even more shocking is that he truly believes being a white nationalist or white supremacist is right!”, he adds.

The 15-year Republican Representative from Iowa said during an interview with the New York Times: “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” Following his statement, House Republican leaders removed King from the Judiciary and Agriculture Committee. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said King should find “another line of work” and Senator Mitt Romney said he should quit.

“Even his own party is scrambling to do damage control but where has it been until now, not just with King, but with President Trump who has defended the same white nationalist and white supremacy mindset?,” asks Garcia. “The fact is Republican leaders have been largely silent and allowed hate speech, racial attacks and xenophobia to flourish which we will remember in 2020,” he concluded.
