LULAC National Freedom and Justice Award

Richard Fierro

Richard Fierro is recognized as a decorated 15-year Army veteran ending his service in 2013 as a major, and he was twice awarded the bronze star for his work. After serving in the Army, Richard and his wife established Atrevida Beer Company, a female forward brewery producing unique flavors that challenge consumer’s perspective of craft beers. More recently, this man honorably and bravely defended the lives of eighteen-plus individuals that were victims of a shooting in a queer bar in Colorado Springs. Fierro disarmed the gunman and protected his community at Club Q that night. His friends say he has continuously been a vibrant presence in his community as a family man, kind neighbor, and business owner. We are honoring Richard Fierro for his contribution to the Latino business community and for his selfless courage and commitment to protecting those in his community, both abroad and domestically.
