Political Science & Sociology

University of California, San Diego

Paulina Vargas serves as a Mass Media and Communications Fellow at LULAC's National Office in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2026. Having grown up in Oceanside, California, she is a rising senior at the University of California, San Diego, where she is double majoring in Political Science and Sociology.

At UC San Diego, Paulina is actively involved in student leadership, serving as Vice President of External Affairs for the Society of Hispanic Students in Law, Academic Chair for MEChA, and a Field Mentor and Social Media and Marketing Officer for the Tijuana Youth Migrant Network.

Her professional experience includes serving as a legal intern with the San Diego Superior Court and as a Latino Outreach Intern for Congressman Mike Levin. She has also conducted research focused on immigration, public policy, and undocumented communities, combining academic study with community-based fieldwork.

As a first-generation future attorney, Paulina is passionate about immigration law, public policy, and expanding access to justice for marginalized communities. Following graduation, she plans to attend law school and pursue a career advocating for immigrant communities and advancing meaningful policy reform.

Through her work at LULAC, Paulina hopes to use media and communications to raise awareness of issues affecting Latino communities, strengthen civic engagement, and help amplify stories that are too often overlooked.
