Edwin Ortiz

Edwin Ortiz is a Research and Policy Fellow at LULAC's National Office in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2026. Having grown up in Rochester, New York, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in Global and International Studies at the University of Salamanca in Spain, with a concentration in Migration, Environment, and Climate Change. He previously earned bachelor's degrees in International Studies and Spanish from St. John Fisher University. Through the Masters program with the University of Salamanca, Edwin seeks to look further into climate induced migration and how it disproportionately impacts migrants from all over the globe.

Edwin brings extensive experience working with immigrant, refugee, and farmworker communities. Most recently, he served as an Outreach Advocate for the Western New York Coalition of Farmworker Serving Agencies, where he helped individuals navigate housing, health care, employment, and social services while advocating for policy changes affecting immigrant communities. He also worked alongside New York State officials investigating labor and human trafficking cases involving migrant workers.

Previously, Edwin served as a paralegal with JustCause, supporting asylum cases, organizing family preparedness clinics, and helping migrant farmworkers understand their legal rights. His work has consistently focused on ensuring that vulnerable communities have access to legal resources, public services, and opportunities to succeed.

At LULAC, Edwin contributes to research and policy initiatives focused on immigration, civil rights, and economic opportunity. He is committed to advancing practical solutions that improve the lives of immigrant and Latino communities and plans to continue building a career in public service, advocacy, and international affairs.
