Camila Lopez

Camila Lopez serves as a Research and Policy Fellow at LULAC's National Office in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2026. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, she is a rising senior at the University of Alabama, where she is a part of the Blackburn Institute, Shelby Institute of Policy and Leadership, and the University of Alabama System Capitol Scholars Program.

A dedicated campus leader, Camila previously served as President of the Hispanic Latino Association, Vice President of Legacy Scholars, the university's first-generation student program, and Associate Editor of the Capstone Journal of Law and Public Policy. In 2024, she was awarded the prestigious Gilman Scholarship and studied abroad in Málaga, Spain.

Camila currently works as an office assistant and translator for the Tuscaloosa Public Defender's Office, where she provides bilingual support and legal assistance to Spanish-speaking clients. She is also a recipient of the 2025–2027 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship, which supports emerging undergraduate leaders through financial assistance, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities in public service.

As part of the Voyager Scholarship program, Camila interned with Humane Borders, a nonprofit organization in Arizona that provides humanitarian aid to migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. There, she gained firsthand experience addressing the challenges facing migrant and Latino communities. At LULAC, she is expanding her understanding of immigration policy and the ways federal policy making shapes the lives of immigrant families across the country.

Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Camila works with her family's boutique, Luna BHM, in Birmingham, helping identify new brands and styles for customers. Following graduation, she plans to attend law school and pursue a career in immigration law, advocating for underserved communities and expanding access to justice.
