IN MEMORIAM

Carmen D. Guzman

April 24, 1920 to February 16, 2023

Please join me in expressing LULAC's most profound and heartfelt condolences to former national presidents Margaret and Oscar Moran upon the sad passing of Margaret's beloved mother, Carmen D. Guzman. She entered her rest on February 16, 2023, after a glorious life of more than 102 years shared with family and all who were blessed to know her.

Our LULAC family has lost one of its most esteemed and respected members and a wonderful friend we enjoyed greeting and speaking with often at our conventions and events. Mrs. Guzman made these occasions special with her presence, including her constant, loving, positive spirit, welcoming smile, and sincere warmth. Many of us remember the pride and joy she exuded when her daughter first won the LULAC presidential election in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in July 2010. President Moran credited that historical moment and many other milestone achievements to Mrs. Guzman's lifelong encouragement and instilled values her mother generously imparted to those she touched. Mrs. Guzman was a charter member of LULAC Council 4421.

Over a century, this grand matriarch's life provided a role model for her six children, 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and another child due soon. LULAC recalls one of Mrs. Guzman's centenary-plus celebrations that became citywide news in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. LULAC was proud to share the story because of Mrs. Guzman's enormous community of friends and because so many individuals followed her many accomplishments and the active life she continued to pursue. Mrs. Guzman was a proud descendant of the original "Canary Islanders" who settled in San Antonio and Von Ormy, Texas.

A visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2023, at 5:30 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. The funeral service is Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 10:00 AM, with burial following at San Fernando #2 Cemetery, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.

Please add your condolences and comments at www.FunerariaDelAngelRoyAkers.com

Sincerely,

Domingo Garcia LULAC
National President
