The 89th Annual LULAC National Convention & Exposition in Phoenix, AZ “Together We Rise: Igniting Activism to Transform Communities”

Phoenix, AZ - - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the nation’s largest and oldest Latino civil rights organization, will host its 89th Annual National Convention from July 17 through July 21, 2018, at the Phoenix Convention Center (100 N 3rd St., Phoenix, AZ 85004).

This year’s theme, “Together We Rise: Igniting Activism to Transform Communities”, strongly projects LULAC’s renewed resolve to confront the most pressing challenges facing Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico. The convention takes place in Arizona a key critical state for this year’s midterm elections.

The LULAC convention includes specialized seminars and workshops with expert panelists from throughout the United States discussing and analyzing the issues impacting Latino communities. This includes comprehensive immigration reform, access to greater educational opportunities improved healthcare, and ensuring veterans receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

Among those attending the national convention will be leaders in government, corporate and nonprofit sectors, as well as academic experts and local social justice advocates. The Convention’s featured keynote speaker is Vice President Joe Biden. Prominent invited speakers and guests include Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez, Political Commentator Ana Navarro, Ohtli Award Recipient Sheriff Antonio “Tony” Estrada, and Luis Roberto Clemente, son of the late Hall-of -Fame honoree Roberto Clemente, Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), among many others. A separate convention track for LULAC Youth will provide emerging leaders with workshops on community service, leadership development, career opportunities and advocacy training.

A key component of the LULAC convention is the Federal Training Institute (FTI)—an intensive and structured career development program for government employees. This year, the FTI will also host workshops for job-seekers looking for opportunities in the federal government, as well as how to build a professional portfolio and strategically market their skill sets.

Another cornerstone component of the 2018 LULAC National Convention is the exposition, which will feature hundreds of corporate partners, government agencies, colleges and universities, branches of the armed services. Also, nonprofit organizations will display their products and services while recruiting Latino employees. The exposition is an event for the entire family with free health services, daily prizes, giveaways and activities for all to enjoy.

The general public is cordially invited to join LULAC members from throughout the country as they gather to address the critical issues impacting our communities and our nation. The event is expected to draw more than 15,000 attendees, over 1,000 LULAC delegates and 400 federal employees.
