LULAC ISSUES STATEMENT FOLLOWING ATTACK ON WEST BLOOMFIELD, MICHIGAN TEMPLE
Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Joins in Solidarity with Jewish Community in Today's Denouncing Armed Attack at Temple Israel
Washington, DC – "Everyone should be safe in their place of worship. No family should have to fear for their loved ones while they pray. Today, the Jewish community in West Bloomfield, Michigan, experienced what too many of our communities know all too well: a targeted attack on their house of worship. While we are grateful that strong security measures helped prevent further tragedy, and we pray for the swift recovery of the security officer who was injured, this attack is a stark reminder that hate threatens all of our communities.
LULAC stands in solidarity with Temple Israel, the Jewish community in Detroit, and Jewish communities across the country. An attack on one of our communities is an attack on all of us. We have seen this pattern before in El Paso, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Charleston, and too many other places. Houses of worship should be sanctuaries, not targets.
We are safer when we stand together. LULAC will continue to work alongside our partners at ADL and across the civil rights community to combat hate, protect our communities, and ensure that everyone can practice their faith without fear.
Our hearts are with the Temple Israel community and all those impacted by this act of hate."
