Action Alert: Save Pell: Tell your Senators and Representative to pressure the Supercommittee to SAVE PELL

Save Pell: Tell your Senators and Representative to pressure the Supercommittee to SAVE PELL

Six U. S. senators and six members of the U.S. House of Representatives — who make up what’s known as the Supercommittee — face a Nov. 23 deadline to cut the deficit by a staggering $1.5 trillion. Pell Grants help millions earn their way into the middle class and strengthen our economy, yet Pell is a prime target for crippling cuts. These cuts would come at a significant cost to Latino students.

We cannot balance the budget on the backs of hard-working students. Tell your Senators and Representative to pressure the Supercommittee to SAVE PELL. Do it today!

Once you’ve contacted your Senators and Representative, tell your friends about the need to protect Pell.

Cutting Pell now would cut short the college careers of millions of students and hurt our nation’s economy. During academic year 2007-2008, more than 39% of Hispanic undergraduate students received Pell awards, representing 20% of all Pell recipients that year.

It’s easy to help Save Pell: Just just fill in the information below to contact your Members of Congress.

In a few minutes, you can contact Congress and spread the word. Small actions by thousands will make a huge difference for low-income students and the future of our country.

We can’t sit back and trust that our legislators will do the right thing. Join today us in fighting back.

The House has planted its flag in a draconian jumping-off point as they begin negotiations with the Senate. They need to hear that these proposals are absolutely unacceptable. Write to your member of Congress today.
